More Government Control Over Online Content?

As reported in the Nation, the Thai legislature is considering possible amendments to Thailand’s Computer Crimes Act that would allow the government to remove content on blogs, websites and social media platforms such as Facebook and Line if deemed “inappropriate” or seen to negatively affect peace and order.

Under the amendments, a five-person committee would be set up to review online content and seek a court order to have inappropriate content removed.

The amendments will also provide a mechanism for imposing penalties on those found guilty of hacking computers.
