Industries Relocate in Response to Wage Hike

The National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) reported that industries have responded to last month's increase in the daily minimum wage by relocating to neighboring countries and border zones such as Tak and Kanchanaburi provinces.

Labour-intensive industries, such as food and textiles, are particularly sensitive to wage increases, and the NESDB anticipates more relocation when the new wages are applied nationwide in January 2013.

We will continue to monitor and report on any developments related to the wage hikes here.
