Thailand Grappling with Labour Shortage in the Tourism Sector

The Thai Hotel Association (THA) reports that there is a labor shortfall in the hotel industry in Thailand.  Thailand has seen a rise in hotel occupancy rates from last year and the THA is predicting a further increase in occupancy rates this year.  The THA reports, for example, that occupancy rates in Bangkok are at 71%, up 15 percentage points from last year.  The THA also reports that occupancy rates in the South (in places such as Phuket) the occupancy rate has increased by 20% to a current level of 75%.  The THA is predicting a strong increase in Thai hotel occupancy rates, but expressing concern about the ability to Thai hotels to hire properly trainned staff in the tourism sector to meet the needs of increased tourism to Thailand.
